By Daniel BrownI took this photo on August 4th, 2021, as the Dixie Fire destroyed the town of Greenville, CA. The image shows a firefighter using a firehose to extinguish the burning remains of a downtown building. Near the rubble, a large propane tank was on fire, and I asked the firefighter closest to the tank if he'd be OK if it exploded. "Probably not," he said, then looked back towards the hose and burning rubble. I backed up and took the above photo of the crew member silhouetted by the burning tank. He later asked me to send him one of the photos, so I took his number down. When the image appeared the next day in multiple media outlets, I texted the crew member a link to one of the stories. He liked it, but was concerned that he would have to buy ice cream (or something like that) for his fellow crew members.
